What we think -
When Priyanka Chopra paved her way to the big world of Hollywood, everyone stood up and applauded her achievements. After a strong show like Quantico, she signed her first film there Baywatch and people were waiting for her to perform miracles. But seeing the movie today, the only miracle I witnessed is that I survived it. And that too is only due to the other stars in the movie, which again is not saying much.
Bringing the classic 1990s show on the big screen with the new generation, Baywatch already had a springboard but couldn't manage to salvage the pride even with several sexily toned bodies and their slo-mo red swimsuit runs.
The story line of Baywatch the movie surrounds around a group of lifeguards who take their jobs of saving the beach from any kind of danger, a little too seriously. Among them is a new entrant rebel who grudgingly becomes a part of this super tanned family. They all suspect that the new hotel owner Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra) is a drug dealer and embark on a remarkably childish quest to expose her and 'save their Bay'.
Hollywood stars like Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Zac Efron (the one with the abs), Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach have joined Priyanka in this much publicised movie and while a few one line punches between the main men are funny, there is nothing much else in the movie. The ladies have no strong roles as the heroes dominate and our desi girl Priyanka Chopra gets the least screen time in the entire lead cast. And whatever time she did get, PeeCee spent that in showing off her hot assets sans the swimsuit and speaking in the tell-tale vamp accent while dropping a few F-bombs for the sake of it.
Except some humorous quips in between, it seemed that director Seth Gordon had given up any efforts on sharpening the script when he saw the buzz that was created about Baywatch. The so called crime solving spree of the lead cast in the film was amateurish to say the least. Even Scooby-Doo episodes looked more sensible than this. It is a wonder how so many talented stars including our very own Miss Chopra gave their nod for a project that has so many loopholes.
Our Verdict -
Unless you have absolutely nothing to do this weekend, please refrain from this cliched film that will shatter any lingering illusions you have of the original series. Instead of this, take your 'bae' to 'watch' something else.
